July Work Day with Hālau Hula Kamamolikolehua

On this combination work-gather day at the Mālaola, we worked with a few members of Hālau Hula Kamamolikolehua, which comes from the same geneaological line as Hālau 'O Kaululaua'e. These ladies (and a helpful husband) weeded around plantings that were neglected for some time.

Then they gathered purple crown flower for lei to be sewn and worn the next day at the Prince Lot Hula Festival at Moanalua Gardens.

Though our group was small, we got a lot out of the experience and thought of ways to engage more hālau hula to care for and gather from the Mālaola. That's what this garden is all about!

Here are the ladies fashioning the lei made of crown flowers from the Mālaola!
